Rooftops Canada – Building Sustainable Communities

Rooftops Canada/Abri International (RC/AI) grew out of the Canadian co-operative housing movement, and was founded in 1984. RC/AI is the international development program of co-operative and social housing organizations in Canada. Working with partner organizations overseas, Rooftops helps improve housing conditions, and helps build sustainable communities. Rooftops Canada's focus is on disadvantaged communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe.

Since 1984, Rooftops Canada has been providing technical expertise and leadership in low-cost housing and human settlements development around the world. The organization also brings an international perspective to the Canadian social housing sector and provides opportunities for Canadians to share ideas and experiences with their overseas counterparts.

An independent evaluation for the Canadian International Development Agency (a major funder of Rooftops Canada) stated that RC/AI is one of the most knowledgeable and one of the most cost-effective non-governmental organizations working in the field of housing.

Many housing co-ops and co-op members make annual donations to RC/AI. Check out the Rooftops Canada website for further information: www.rooftops.ca.
