The Northern Alberta Cooperative Housing Association (NACHA) is a federation of Housing Cooperatives. We provide a variety of services to our membership and to the public who are interested in finding out more about cooperative housing.

We offer a variety of information/resources including a monthly public information session that can assist families in becoming a members of a housing cooperative project. 

How To Apply to a Co-op:

  1. Attend manadatory information session.
  2. Select co-ops of interest from the 
    co-op listing.
  3. Apply to each co-op individually and follow their specific application process


  1. Edmonton area co-ops have very long waiting lists. You can expect anywhere from a 3 month to 5 year wait for vacancy.
  2. Many co-ops do not have subsidy available.
  3. NACHA is not involved in the placement of families in its member housing co-ops.

  5. Before you apply for housing, it is a good idea to get a copy of your credit report to make sure there are no mistakes or old information that will affect your application. For more information about the importance of your credit history click here




Does the thought of taking minutes make you want to hide? Meeting minutes are critical to the success of any business meeting, but the task of writing them can be daunting. This 3 hour workshop is designed to assist individuals in taking meeting minutes that are accurate, concise and complete. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have the tools to produce minutes will be a valuable record for your housing cooperative, whether it's committee or board meeting minutes. We’ll cover the following:
  • Meeting Pre-Planning
  • Record taking - at the meeting
  • Minutes writing or transcribing
  • Distributing or sharing of meeting minutes
  • Filing or storage of minutes for future reference
  • Meeting minute abbreviations

The workshop will be taking place on Saturday, June 23 from 11:30am - 2:30pm in the Common Room of Sundance Place: 8703 101 Avenue Edmonton, AB T5H 4B4
Light refreshments may be provided (more information will be provided closer to the workshop date).
Fee: $65/person.

Why Solar Energy for Your Co-op

The Alberta Residential and Commercial Solar Program is a rebate program set up to encourage home owners, business & non-profits to better utilize Alberta’s plentiful sunlight. The program provides a $0.75/watt rebate to non-profit systems, such as your co-op. The maximum grant amount is the lesser of 25% of the eligible system cost or $500,000. The installation cost is broken down below. The initial cost might seem scary, but solar energy can help you save on your power bills year round, for the life of your system. Rooftops Canada, the international development program of social and cooperative housing groups in Canada is looking for a Senior Advisor with extensive experience in social housing to help implement a national capacity building program for the growing social housing sector in South Africa.

The Advisor will be based in Johannesburg with the National Association of Social Housing Organizations. This is a one year salaried/contract position starting in August 2018, but timing is negotiable with the right candidate.
